My top 5 tips on how not to be a Div.

on June 26, 2014

I am so sick of seeing people doing really, properly selfish, rude, mean, annoying things but, lately I have even wondering if people behave as they do because they’ve never been told any different.
So, just because I am kind and wish to give people the benefit of the doubt before totally going off on one, I have written my Top 5 tips on how not to be a total divvy and general annoyance to wider society…
Enjoy and feel free to add your own.

1) If it isn’t yours, don’t take it.
Not rocket science people. Whether it’s a packet of biscuits from a shop or war medals from a veteran, it’s wrong.
Earn it or leave it there.

2) Don’t watch Jeremy Kyle.
He is a hideous individual who feels the need to raise his voice and shame people in front of an audience. It is the modern day equivalent of a freak show and there is no need for it.

2b) Don’t go on Jeremy Kyle.
If you real feel you must air your dirty washing in public- start a blog!

3) Don’t aspire to be the next TOWIE or MIC or Jordan or anyone of this ilk.
Just plain URGH.
Consider being the next Bill Gates, the next Marie Curie, the next anyone who works hard, tries hard and gives others a leg up if they possibly can.

4) Don’t, just DO NOT park in a parent and child space if you’re not a parent WITH a child. It is selfish, knobbish behaviour and people hate it. They HATE IT.
The same goes for disabled spaces.

5) Don’t judge people for the way the choose to live their lives.
You have no idea what has lead them here in the first place.*

* Number 5 is null and void if the individual is doing any of the previous four tips.
Then, judge away!!

What do you want people to JUST STOP DOING?!
Let me know and I’ll pass it on!

You’re welcome. 😉

Love this list. I once had someone who appeared to be alone park in the last parent-child space. I wound down the window and said (very crossly) “that’s a parent-child space. Where is your child?” They opened the back door to reveal a baby fast asleep in a car seat which I hadn’t been able to see through the window. Was very, very embarrassed and apologised profusely. So I would add “take a moment to think before you challenge someone and be sure of your facts!” as no. 6!

Brilliant List!! I think people (men) should stop wearing speedos! There should be a blanket ban on them!!

  4. My 13yo son’s friend, a girl, sent him a message starting ‘hey d**khead’. I spoke to my son, he said it was a joke, it’s just the way she speaks. I reminded him we don’t speak to each other that way, he would be shocked if any of us said that. I told him she might not know any different & maybe he should tell her not to speak to him like that.
What you say is true, she may hear that all the time but nobody’s told her any different.

  5. 6) NEVER be rude to shop assistants/waiters/anyone really. This is my major annoyance.

Ha! Love this post and can relate on every level. My pet hate is underhand compliments. Often I’ve smiled and nodded along feeling chuffed when someone has ‘complimented’ me or my children, only to reflect on it later and go WTF?!?!? It’s so sly and I get so cross that I haven’t stood up for myself or my children like should have, just because I only realised it was a poorly disguised dig when it was too late. Call me slow, or overly trusting, but this happens a lot. Often from so called ‘friends’… Grrrrr! Anyway, great post, my lovely. Very thought-provoking. Lovely to meet you at Britmums. Keep in touch xxx

URGH- I know exactly what you mean. I had the very same thing in a coffee shop this week with an older lady…I should have said…well, what exactly- what do you say to sly people without looking way too uptight and silly?!
Impossible to get it right I guess.
Brilliant to meet you too; I will keep in touch and see you next year. 🙂

  9. Number 4 – THIS. I totally agree and get so frustrated, irate and generally peeved when someone wings their car into a space that clearly ISN’T MARKED FOR THEIR USE. I had a mild altercation with a rather rude chap at Aldi last week. He thought that because he was only “nipping inside for some milk”, he could park in the last remaining parent and child space. Ah right, I said, I didn’t realise it worked like that… you just go on inside then and I’ll wait for you to return…!

    Rant over – a great list 🙂 x #MMWBH

  10. I have seen a lot of cars parked in a parent child parking without a child. Without a car seat even meaning they really dont have child at anytime! They dont know how hard it is to get your child on a small space! #mmwbh
